DXF to PDF to scale
To get a DXF as a PDF at a true scale, open it in DXF Viewer and choose Print / PDF to scale. Pick the sheet, the scale (for example 1:1 or 1/4" = 1'-0") and the orientation, and the viewer builds a vector PDF in your browser. A check bar on every sheet lets you confirm the printout with a ruler.

How to make a scaled PDF from a DXF
- Open the drawing in DXF Viewer. Look at the units in the status bar: the scale only works if they are right.
- Hide the layers that should not be printed, such as construction lines or notes.
- On the left toolbar choose Print / PDF to scale.
- Select the sheet, the orientation and the scale. Use Custom scale for anything else, for example 1:25.
- If the drawing is bigger than one sheet, turn on Tile across several sheets and set the overlap in mm.
- Click Download PDF, or Open PDF to print and print at 100 %, with page scaling switched off.
Scaled PDF or quick PDF
The viewer has three ways to save a PDF, and they answer different needs.
| you need | use | what you get |
|---|---|---|
| a PDF you can measure with a scale rule | Print / PDF to scale | vector PDF on a standard sheet, exact scale, title strip with a scale bar |
| a quick PDF to send for review | Export drawing → PDF (vector) | one page sized to the area you select, no fixed scale |
| many drawings in one file | Tools → Batch convert | one PDF, one page per drawing |
A drawing with paper space layouts has two more buttons: PDF this sheet and PDF all sheets.
Sheet sizes and scales
The sheet list covers US and metric paper. US sizes are stored as exact inches, metric sizes as exact millimeters.
| group | sheets |
|---|---|
| US office | Letter 8.5×11 in, Legal 8.5×14 in, Tabloid 11×17 in |
| ANSI engineering | A 8.5×11, B 11×17, C 17×22, D 22×34, E 34×44 in |
| ARCH architectural | A 9×12, B 12×18, C 18×24, D 24×36, E 36×48 in |
| ISO metric | A4 210×297, A3 297×420, A2 420×594, A1 594×841, A0 841×1189 mm |
Preset scales are 2:1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:5, 1:10, 1:20, 1:50 and 1:100, plus the architectural 1/8", 1/4", 1/2" and 1" = 1'-0". Fit to sheet picks the largest scale that fits. A custom scale accepts both forms, 1:25 or 3/16" = 1'-0".
Check the printout with a ruler
Printers and PDF readers often shrink a page to fit the margins, and then a 1:1 print is off by a few percent. Each sheet carries a short bar labelled check: 1 in on US paper or check: 25 mm on ISO paper. Measure it on the printed sheet. If it is shorter, print again with the page scaling set to 100 % or "Actual size".
When the size comes out wrong
A part that prints 25.4 times too big or too small means the DXF units are wrong, usually millimeters read as inches or the reverse. The viewer reads the units from the file header. When a file has no units, it assumes them and says so, and you can choose the right ones under Drawing units before printing. Measure one known dimension with the measure tool before you print a large sheet.

Frequently asked questions
Can I convert a DXF to PDF without CAD software?
Yes. Open the DXF in the browser viewer and use Export drawing for a quick PDF or Print / PDF to scale for an exact scale. Nothing has to be installed.
Is the PDF vector or an image?
Vector in both modes. Lines, arcs and text are drawn as geometry, so the PDF stays sharp when you zoom in.
Why is my 1:1 print slightly too small?
The print dialog shrank the page to fit the printer margins. Print at 100 % or Actual size and check the 1 in or 25 mm bar on the sheet.
Can I print a DWG to scale too?
Yes. A DWG is converted to DXF inside your browser when you open it, and all print options work the same way.
Does the PDF keep colors?
Colored lines keep their color. White lines, which disappear on paper, are printed black, so you can stay on the dark theme.
