Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what data DXF Viewer ("we", "us", "our") processes when you use dxfviewer.app, the DXF Viewer browser extension and the DXF Viewer Pro subscription (together, the "Service"), and what choices you have.
In short: your drawings never leave your device. We use web analytics to understand how the viewer is used, and if you buy Pro, your email, country and subscription status are processed through our payment platform. We never see your card details and we never sell your data.
1. What is processed locally (and never uploaded)
DXF Viewer is built so that your files stay with you. When you open a DXF or DWG file, everything happens inside your browser on your device:
- reading and parsing the file (including DWG conversion);
- rendering the drawing, layers, zoom and pan;
- measurements, search and comparison;
- export to PNG and PDF.
Your drawings are not uploaded to our servers, are not stored by us and cannot be seen by us. This applies equally to the free plan, to Pro and to the browser extension. When the extension opens a .dxf link, the file is fetched by your browser directly from the site hosting it and rendered locally.
Conveniences such as your recent files list and saved views are kept in your browser's local storage on your device only. You can clear them at any time from the viewer or by clearing your browser's site data.
2. What the website collects
2.1 Web analytics
We use third-party web analytics services to understand how the Service is used — for example which features are popular, which browsers and screen sizes to support and where visitors come from. These services collect technical data such as pages viewed, interactions with the interface, browser and device type, operating system, approximate location derived from your IP address, referrer and session identifiers stored in cookies. One of these services may also record anonymised session replays of interactions with the page; the contents of your drawings are rendered on a canvas and are not transmitted in these replays. The names of the analytics providers we currently use are available on request.
2.2 First-party product metrics
The viewer sends small aggregate event counters (for example "file opened" or "export clicked") to our own server. These contain no personal identifiers and no information about your files; they help us see whether features work even when third-party analytics are blocked.
2.3 Error monitoring
If something goes wrong, the viewer sends an error report to our self-hosted monitoring service. A report includes the error message, the page URL, browser and operating system details and, when relevant, basic technical context about the file being opened, such as its name and size — never its contents.
2.4 Remote configuration
On load, the viewer fetches a small configuration file from our server (used, for example, to enable or disable features). Like any web request, this exposes your IP address and browser user agent to our server; we use this only to serve the response and for routine security logging.
2.5 Paywall and subscription data
When the Pro upgrade prompt is shown or you subscribe, our payment platform, operated by our merchant of record (the payment platform operator) (our merchant of record), processes the data needed to run your subscription:
- email address — used to sign you in, restore purchases on other devices and send receipts and service emails;
- country — derived from your IP address and billing details, used to determine whether the free-plan limit applies to you and to calculate taxes;
- subscription status — plan, renewal date and whether the subscription is active, so the viewer can unlock unlimited opens.
A file-open counter for the free plan is stored in your browser and on the payment platform alongside this account data.
2.6 Support messages
If you email us or use the contact form, we keep your message and address so we can reply and keep a record of the conversation.
3. Cookies and local storage
We use the following categories:
- Essential local storage — your theme preference (light/dark), viewer settings, recent files and saved views, cached remote configuration, the free-plan file-open counter and your Pro sign-in state. These are required for the viewer to work as you expect.
- Analytics cookies — set by our web analytics services to distinguish sessions and visitors (see section 2.1).
- Payment platform — cookies or local storage used by the payment platform to keep you signed in to your subscription.
We do not use advertising cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the viewer will still work, but your preferences will not be remembered and you may need to sign in to Pro again. Most browsers also offer "do not track" or tracking-protection settings, and the analytics providers offer their own opt-out mechanisms.
4. Payment data
Card and other payment details are entered directly into the checkout operated by the payment processor and merchant of record, our merchant of record (the payment platform operator). Card data never touches our servers. We receive only what we need to run the subscription: your email, country, the plan purchased and its status. The Merchant processes payment data under its own privacy policy and the applicable card-industry security standards (PCI DSS).
5. How we use data and legal basis
- To provide the Service and your subscription — unlocking Pro, restoring purchases, sending receipts (performance of a contract).
- To understand and improve the Service — analytics, product metrics, error monitoring (our legitimate interest in running a reliable product; where required by law, your consent).
- To support you — answering emails and refund requests (performance of a contract and legitimate interest).
- To comply with the law — tax, accounting and fraud-prevention obligations (legal obligation).
We do not use your data for advertising and we do not sell it.
6. Who we share data with
- our merchant of record (the payment platform operator) — merchant of record and payment platform (checkout, subscriptions, receipts, refunds, customer portal).
- Web analytics providers — see section 2.1.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers — the servers that deliver the website, configuration and error monitoring.
- Authorities — where required by law or to protect our rights.
These providers act under contracts that limit their use of your data to the services they provide to us.
7. Data retention
- Drawings — never stored by us.
- Subscription data — for as long as your subscription is active and afterwards for the period required by tax and accounting law.
- Analytics — according to the retention settings of each provider; we keep the shortest option practical for product decisions.
- Error reports — for a limited period needed to diagnose and fix problems, after which they are deleted.
- Support messages — for as long as needed to handle your request and keep a record of our correspondence.
8. International transfers
Our providers may process data in countries other than your own. Where data is transferred out of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, receive a copy in a portable format and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Residents of California and certain other US states have similar rights, including the right to know what data is collected and to opt out of its sale (we do not sell personal data).
To exercise any of these rights, email support@dxfviewer.app. We will respond within the time required by law. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
10. Children
The Service is intended for professionals and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children; if you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page with its "last updated" date. If a change is material, we will notify Pro subscribers by email or show a notice in the viewer.
12. Contact
