DXF viewer for iPhone and iPad
iOS cannot preview a DXF on its own, but Safari can open one in DXF Viewer. Save the file to the Files app, open dxfviewer.app in Safari, tap Open File and choose it. The drawing renders on the phone itself: pinch to zoom, drag to pan, and tap to measure.

How to open a DXF on an iPhone
- In Mail or a messaging app, press and hold the DXF attachment and choose Save to Files.
- Open dxfviewer.app in Safari.
- Tap Open File and pick the DXF in the Files app (On My iPhone, iCloud Drive or another location).
- Drag with one finger to pan, pinch to zoom, and tap Fit to see the whole drawing again.
- Use the toolbar at the bottom for layers, measuring and export.
What works with touch
| task | on iPhone |
|---|---|
| pan and zoom | one-finger drag, two-finger pinch |
| layers | show, hide, or show only one layer |
| measure | a short tap places a point, two quick taps finish a chain or an area |
| object properties | tap a line, circle or arc |
| find text | search the labels of the drawing |
| export | PNG, SVG or PDF, saved to Files |
The toolbar sits at the bottom of the screen in portrait and at the side in landscape, so it never covers the drawing. A pinch does not drop measuring points by accident.
iPhone or iPad
A browser tab on a phone gets less memory than on a laptop. Small and medium drawings open well on an iPhone; a large site plan is more comfortable on an iPad or a computer. If a drawing is too large, the viewer says the browser ran out of memory instead of freezing the tab. On an iPad the same steps apply, and a trackpad or mouse works like on a desktop.
DWG files on the phone
A DWG opens the same way. It is converted to DXF inside Safari, which needs a one-time download of about 9 MB for the converter; later opens use the cached copy. For many DWG files in a row, a computer is faster.
Privacy on the phone
The drawing is read by Safari on your iPhone. It is not sent to a server, and it is gone from memory when you close the tab, which matters for drawings shared under a confidentiality agreement.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an app to open a DXF on iPhone?
No. Safari opens the DXF in the browser viewer. An app is only worth installing if you need to edit drawings on the phone.
Why can't I see the DXF attachment in the file picker?
Save the attachment to the Files app first; the picker shows files from Files, not from Mail.
Can I measure on an iPhone?
Yes. Turn on Measure, tap the first point and the second point. Two quick taps finish a chain or an area.
Does it work on Android too?
Yes, in Chrome on Android the steps are the same. Downloaded files are in the Downloads folder.
Is the drawing uploaded from my phone?
No. Safari reads and renders it on the device.
